CJ 261C Law Enforcement Related Experience 3 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 6 Credits: 6
LERE 3 focuses on topics, training, and practical application covered in the LERE coursework that aligns with best practices and the most modern techniques used in the law enforcement profession. Involves an overview of criminal Oregon Revised Statutes as related to driving offenses and Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants enforcement through investigation and utilization of the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing. Introduces the abilities needed for successful testimonial evidence collection through Cognitive Interviewing techniques, their use in criminal investigations, and writing a police report. Involves the science behind the use of force, defensive tactics skill building, physical fitness training, confrontation simulations involving those under the influence of intoxicants, and basic drone flight operations.
Prerequisite: CJ 261B with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Locate criminal driving offenses in the Oregon Traffic Code Book and Oregon Criminal Code Book.
- Describe the purpose of a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and the usefulness of Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) as they relate to the enforcement of the driving under the influence laws and public safety.
- Relate the enforcement of driving under the influence laws to the safety of the community.
- Describe the importance of the basic police report and perform the skill of writing this type of police report.
- Perform a Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants (DUII) investigation which includes the use of Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST).
- Perform learned defensive tactics skills, while abiding under current use of force case law, in a confrontational contact when the subject is under the influence of an intoxicant.
