CJ 261D Law Enforcement Related Experience 4 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 6 Credits: 6
LERE 4 focuses on topics, training, and practical application covered in the LERE coursework that aligns with best practices and the most modern techniques used in the law enforcement profession. Involves the overview of criminal Oregon Revised Statutes as related to property crimes and their investigation. Introduces the abilities needed for successful de-escalation during high stress encounters through the learning of various communication techniques. Covers how to conduct a crash investigation and complete the required paperwork in such investigations. Discusses the use of personal protective equipment and recognition of hazardous materials. Involves defensive tactics skill building, physical fitness training, confrontation simulations involving those in crisis, and advanced drone flight operations.
Prerequisite: CJ 261C with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Locate criminal property offenses in the Oregon Criminal Code Book.
- Describe the purpose of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and the need to be aware of hazardous materials as they relate to the law enforcement function.
- Describe the importance of a more advanced or lengthy police report and perform the skill of writing this type of police report.
- Perform a Basic Criminal Investigation following all guidelines as set through statute, Constitutional law, and court direction.
- Perform a crash investigation and identify the officer’s duties and responsibilities during these investigations.
- Perform learned defensive tactics skills, while abiding under current use of force case law, in a confrontational contact when the subject in a mental health crisis.
