ENL 032P Basic English Pronunciation 2 Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Introduces basic principles of U.S. American English pronunciation. Focuses on using a pronouncing key, pronouncing English vowels and consonants, rhythm in sentences, intonation in discourse and comprehending connected or rapid speech. Designed for non-native English speakers at the low-intermediate level.
Prerequisite: ENL 031P with a grade of C or better; or consent of the instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Use a phonetic alphabet and Color Vowel Chart to pronounce American English phonetic sounds in vocabulary.
- Apply rules of syllabication, word endings, and word stress to pronounce vocabulary.
- Apply rules sentence stress, rhythm, linking, and thought groups to improve intelligibility
- Use technology to accomplish required tasks.
