HE 209 Human Sexuality Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Examines several aspects of human sexuality through the scope of physiological, psychological, and social perspectives. Emphasizes the understanding of the spectrum of sexual experience and behavior to develop awareness and make informed sexual decisions.
Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115 (or higher), or completion of WR 090 (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Examine cultural, historical, and social views, practices, and laws on sexuality.
- Describe human sexual anatomy and physiology as it relates to sexual arousal, response, and reproduction.
- Explain the human life cycle from conception to childbirth, as well as methods of fertility control, family planning, and health habits to practice during pregnancy.
- Discuss the role of sexuality and sexual development across the lifespan.
- Explore perspectives on sexual and gender diversity, including orientation, gender identity, gender role, and biological sex.
- Examine theories and strategies to use sexual experiences and behaviors to foster intimacy, fulfillment, and communication in relationships.
- Analyze the misuse of sexuality to manipulate, exploit, or control individuals, including coercion, harassment, violence, and abuse.
- Discuss sexual health issues, dysfunctions, and infections that affect individuals’ health and experiences including prevention and management methods.
