HS 209 Co-Occurring Disorders

Covers basic information about integrated assessment and treatment for individuals with both substance use disorders and mental health conditions.

Prerequisite: HS 101 ; and HS 266  or HS 216 ; or consent of instructor (All prerequisites must be completed with a grade of C or better.)
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Define and identify the dynamics of co-occurring disorders. 
  2. Assess client readiness for change in multiple areas of concern. 
  3. Assess personal attitudes and beliefs about individuals with co-occurring disorders. 
  4. Understand principles of integrated treatment. 
  5. Identify basic screening and assessment information. 
  6. Apply strategies for working with clients with co-occurring disorders. 
  7. Identify self-care skills to prevent compassion fatigue.
