WR 115A Corequisite Support for WR115 (Introduction to Composition) Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 1
Focuses on the foundational skills and concepts needed to be persistent and successful in WR 115 (Introduction to Composition). Provides support in learning, practicing, and accessing resources related to: the conventions and skills of college-level writing and analyzing, responding to, and making use of college-level texts.
Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115 with corequisite support via multiple measures placement, or completion of WR 080 with a grade of C or better, or completion of WR 090 with corequisite support with a grade of C or better, or completion of WR 090 , or consent of instructor. Corequisite: WR 115 and ENG 100 Student Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate relevant skills to effectively engage with the concepts and skills needed in WR115
- Reflect on and improve their proficiency with the WR115 content.
- Utilize study habits and learning strategies that promote success in WR115.
Content Outline
- Apply multiple strategies to learn academic vocabulary related to WR115: Introduction to Composition.
- Use reading techniques, such as previewing, scanning, and skimming to increase reading fluency and comprehension.
- Analyze information and ideas gained from college courses to written assignments and exams.
- Use multiple planning and invention strategies to produce legible and grammatically correct and comprehensible content-related documents.
- Use several simple revision strategies to monitor writing, to make edits based on review and feedback from others, and to practice the skill of giving feedback in constructive ways, to produce required assignments.
- Make edits of grammar, spelling, sentence structure, language use, and structure to produce accurate written assignments related to WR115.
- Use technology necessary to be successful in WR115.
