ART 261 Darkroom & Film Photography Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 4 Credits: 4
Introduces 35mm black and white photography. Includes the history of contemporary photography, use of camera equipment, correct exposure calibrations, film processing, darkroom techniques, printing enlargements and presentation of prints.
Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115 (or higher), or completion of WR 090 (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Recommended: This course has physical challenges including chemical allergies and low light levels in darkroom safelights.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Relate the history of contemporary American photography.
- Operate a manual 35mm camera and related equipment.
- Create aesthetically pleasing images, following the rules of composition and depth of field.
- Expose correctly 35mm black and white film.
- Develop and process black and white film.
- Print a technically accurate contact sheet.
- Print a technically accurate enlargement.
- Finish and mount a photograph for presentation.
- Discuss ethics and legal issues as related to photography at its use.
- Use darkroom safety procedures.
