ART 201 - Introduction to the Arts of East Asia

Introduces the arts of India and Southeast Asia, China, and Japan. Emphasizes art and architecture as both constructive and reflective of religious, political, and social structures. Traces continuity and change in India: Indus Valley Civilization to the Delhi Sultanate (1206); China: Xia Dynasty to the invasion of the Mongols (1276); and Japan: Jomon Culture to the Kamakura Shogunate (ca. 1300).

Prerequisite: Placement into WR 121 ; or completion of WR 115  (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
