PHM 232 Pharmacology 2 Lecture Hours: 4 Credits: 4
Expands pharmacological knowledge to include drugs affecting the cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, renal, and gastrointestinal systems. Focuses on therapeutic classifications, mechanisms of action, contraindications, and technician awareness of interactions and safety principles related to these systems.
Prerequisite: PHM 231 with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Maximum number of credits course can be taken for: 4
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify pharmacologic classifications and prototype medications for cardiovascular, respiratory, endocrine, renal, and gastrointestinal systems. (ASHP 2.5, 4.1)
- Explain mechanisms of action, indications, and therapeutic effects for drugs within each body system. (ASHP 2.5, 4.1)
- Recognize adverse reactions, contraindications, and potential interactions associated with these medications. (ASHP 4.2, 4.7)
- Describe how these medications contribute to patient care outcomes within the medication-use process. (ASHP 3.1, 4.1, 4.2)
- Discuss the pharmacy technician’s role in ensuring safety, accuracy, and communication when handling these drug classes. (ASHP 1.3-1.7)
