AUM 190 Automotive Machine Shop - Engine Assembly

Credits: 3

Covers theory and application in automotive machining procedures. Includes use of precision measuring tools, torque wrenches, camshaft timing checks, clearance checks, blueprint measurement, and engine assembly and sealing techniques.

Prerequisite: AUM 188  and/or AUM 189 , either with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Explain the duties of automotive engine assembly specialist.
  2. Use diagnostic procedures to determine component rebuildability.
  3. Perform component cleaning procedures.
  4. Identify components and record factory tolerances and specifications of each part.
  5. Use precision measuring equipment, including, but not limited to: a. Inside and outside micrometers b. Dial indicators and dial bore gauges c. Torque wrenches d. Surface finish comparison equipment
  6. Apply safe working practices in automotive machining procedures.
  7. Perform all engine assembly clearance checks and measurements.
  8. Assemble an engine and make necessary adjustments.
