BLD 266 Plan Review 2

Covers the fundamentals of structural plan review. Includes analysis of beams, columns, and connections.

Prerequisite: BLD 269  with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Understand the plan review processes and department operations
  2. Perform a structural plan review for residential and commercial plans and relate provisions on plans to relevant residential and commercial codes .
  3. Verify design loads, site grades; foundations; rafter, joist and beam sizing; trusses; wall bracing, fasteners for prescriptive construction.
  4. Review design basis and loads in calculations; verify plans and details are consistent with the calculations.
  5. Identify basis of calculations (wind, seismic, materials, etc.) on structural plans and verify details are compatible with the calculations .
  6. Identify engineered and prescriptive structural designs and apply the correct plan review method to each .
  7. Review prescriptive wall bracing plans and details for compliance with the code 
  8. Document required corrections through written and verbal communication
  9. Use computer software to perform basic electronic plan review operations
