CG 114 Career and Life Development

Provides strategies to integrate the personal, educational, and occupational elements of career and life development. Introduces the life-long process of career planning and transitions. Includes assessment of experiences, interests, skills, values, and personality, and how these can influence career choice.Covers planning for education and training, decision making, and planning short-, medium-, and long-range career plans.

Recommended: Placement into WR 090 , or completion with a grade of C or better.


Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Describe, discuss and evaluate past experiences for interests and for skills (learned and applied) and use for future job search.
  2. Interpret and evaluate the results of personal evaluation tools such as personality tests, interest surveys, skill assessments, values clarification exercises.
  3. Describe a model for personal transitions and explain how this model applies to themselves.
  4. Research, analyze and evaluate information and services that provide data about job and labor markets and career planning/job seeking assistance.
  5. Describe methods of decision making; select a decision making strategy and apply to the career planning process.
  6. Outline and create their own career goals and objectives.
  7. Create a personal career transition plan (short, medium and long-range) and explain rationale and describe how they will evaluate the results.
