CIS 178I Introduction to the Internet/World Wide Web Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Introduces the use and history of the global computer network known as the Internet or information superhighway. Explores the philosophy of the Internet, as well as its use as a tool for research, communication, and entertainment. Covers developing and publishing a simple web page on the World Wide Web.
Prerequisite: CIS 101 or CIS 120 , either with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Identify various methods of connecting to the Internet.
- Identify various services available on the Internet.
- Setup and configure an Internet connection.
- Use Internet e-mail to communicate on a global level.
- Use FTP to upload and download files on a global level.
- Use Telnet to login to a remote computer system.
- Use a web browser to browse the World Wide Web.
- Explain and use the various search tools used on the Internet.
- Discuss the history and functionality of the Internet.
- Create a simple web page.
