CIS 279 Server Management 1

Focuses on the logical design, construction, operation, maintenance, and management of a network using directory services. Includes installation of network servers, configuring and managing server roles, file and print services, network connectivity, group policies, system updates, and network security. Provides resources that can be used to prepare for the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) certifications.

Prerequisite: CIS 179  with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Prepare for the installation of an industry standard server-based operating system.
  2. Plan and implement a File and Share service that provides for secure data exchange and redundancy. 
  3. Use embedded directory service tools for managing server services and resources. 
  4. Create and configure Virtual Networks, Virtual Machines and Virtual Hard Disks for a server using current hypervisor technologies. 
  5. Create and configure various user account and group types using both local and active directory management tools. 
  6. Define and manage a secure enterprise network using the addressing mathematics of the TCP/IP protocol stack. 
  7. Demonstrate the planning and implementation of a secure enterprise network using local and domain group policies.
