COMM 130 Business and Professional Speaking

Credits: 4

Focuses on communication in the workplace with an emphasis on the importance of both listening and speaking to help develop the skills necessary for communication in interpersonal, small group, and public business interactions with diverse audiences.

Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115  (or higher), or completion of WR 090  (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Exhibit an awareness of the critical importance of effective communication in business and professional environments. 
  2. Exhibit communication competence through effective oral and written presentations consistent with modern workplace expectations. 
  3. Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of ethical communication within the modern workplace. 
  4. Demonstrate an ability to recognize sexual harassment, discriminatory behaviors, and other inappropriate forms of interpersonal communications within the modern workplace. 
  5. Prepare, deliver, and evaluate ideas effectively in various professional work environments using available legacy as well as emergent technologies for optimum effect.
