DEN 066 Basic Science for Dental Assistants

Lecture Hours: 3
Credits: 3

Designed especially for Dental Assisting program students. Presents introductory concepts of chemistry, cell biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology and oral histology and embryology. Includes practical application of problem solving, scientific observation laboratory techniques.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify and describe the four levels of organization in the human body including cells, tissues, organs, and body systems.
  2. Identify and label the hard and soft tissues of the head and neck.
  3. Recognize the developing stages of a human tooth including the tooth structures formed at each stage.
  4. Explain microorganisms and the role they play in viral, bacterial, and pandemic diseases.
  5. Describe the basic elements of chemistry and understand the different ways chemistry is used in dentistry.
  6. Analyze how various structures of the human body function together.
