DEN 153 Dental Materials 1

Introduces the various materials and laboratory equipment used in the dental office. Includes the chemical and physical properties, manipulation, and uses of restorative materials, medications, impression materials and dental cements. Includes an overview of restorative and crown preparation procedures.

Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Dental Assisting program.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate understanding of instruments and materials needed for specified operative procedures. 
  2.  Demonstrate understanding of dental material properties, uses, and manipulation. 
  3. Explain the concepts related to cavity preparation design. 
  4. Demonstrate the proper operation and care of specific laboratory equipment. 
  5. Explain the steps and processes involved in restorative procedures. 
  6. Demonstrate dental care that minimizes risk of harm to patient, self, and others.
