DEN 156 Dental Anatomy

Introduces dental anatomy. Particular attention is directed toward the oral cavity and its associated structures and anatomical terminology. Includes identification, form and function of the adult dentition, and deciduous dentition. Also includes dental charting for conditions of the oral cavity.

Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Dental Assisting program.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Define terms and abbreviations that pertain to oral anatomy. (Cognitive: Knowledge) 
  2. Recognize the developmental stages of the tooth and its supporting structures. (Cognitive: Analysis). 
  3. Recognize the concepts of tooth function and form through identification of various teeth. (Cognitive: Analysis). 
  4. Recognize specific anatomical structures of individual teeth in the oral cavity.  (Cognitive: Analysis). 
  5. Differentiate between teeth of the maxillary arch and the mandibular arch of the adult. 
  6. Identify, demonstrate and use correct charting symbols and different charting systems (Cognitive: Knowledge).
