DSL 121 Diesel Technology HVAC Repair and Diagnosis

Credits: 6

Covers heady-duty air conditioning operation, trouble shooting and system repair. Prepares students to confidently work on heating and air conditioning systems in an industrial environment. Provides a strong background in the theory, diagnosis, and repair of HVAC systems and there related electrical and electronic systems.

Prerequisite: DSL 110  and DSL 111  each with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Concurrent: DSL 120 .
Student Learning Outcomes:
 

  1. Analyze and determine the problem and implement the correct repair of diesel HVAC, components, and systems.
  2. Troubleshoot, evaluate and repair HVAC systems.
  3. Disassemble, test, and reassemble HVAC components.
  4. Research and locate repair literature.
  5. Apply basic theory of diesel electricity, components, schematics, controls, and how they all relate to the HVAC system.
  6. Conduct repairs in an ethical and professional manner, respecting industry safety and environmental guidelines.
  7. Communicate with co-workers, customers, management and general public in a professional and knowledgeable manner.

    • Line. O-ring, fittings, and compressor service 
    • Receiver/dryer service 
    • Evaporator housing water drain inspection 
  • Trailer refrigeration 
    • Trouble shooting and performance testing 
    • Properly evacuate and recharge a system 
    • Remove and install a compressor
