ELT 255 Advanced Data Communication

Lecture Hours: 3
Lab Hours: 3
Credits: 4

Addresses theory of data communications and concepts of information exchange between computers via data networks. Emphasizes configuration, maintenance, and management of data communication network systems. Constructs and tests multiple network hardware configurations using the Novell NetWare Operating System. Promotes and supports sustainable and green technologies.

Prerequisite: ELT 253  with a grade of C or better; and DOS experience; and a high level programming language; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Discuss and compare data communications systems.
  2. Write specifications for the layout of a small LAN network.
  3. Install and configure equipment and software for a LAN network using the Novell NetWare Operating System.
  4. Set up a directory structure and management scheme for a network file server and install software applications.
  5. Test and troubleshoot data network systems.
