Introduces the realities of the world of work for students inexperienced in the labor market. Emphasizes gaining an understanding of the workplace in order to guide career choices.

Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.
Repeatable: Can be repeated up to six credits.
Student Learning Outcomes:

Identify employability skills desirable to employers.
Identify examples of employee skills utilized at the work site.
Construct an informational interview plan and format.
Use workplace skills to interact in increasingly complex work-based learning experiences.
List the skills and abilities of a successful entry-level employee.
Practice workplace habits and ethics as required at the work site.
Set up increasingly complex work experiences as assessed by successfully performing learning objectives.

Observation and Exploration of Careers

- Support and encourage student’s career exploration

- Role modeling of resolving work-related disputes, balancing personal issues and work
Job Shadowing Experience
- Structured series of interviews and observations of potential occupations
- Direct involvement in daily workplace routine
- Formal report of learning experience, behaviors and skills needed for success
Structured Work Experience
- Collaborative work-based learning experience involving students and staff in conjunction
- Curriculum related introductory work experience placements monitored by instructors
- Curriculum developed jointly by instructors
- Credits transfer to college on successful completion of work experience
