FLM 268 Independent Filmmaking Lecture Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 4 Credits: 4
Allows students with skills acquired either through personal experience or in previous course work to work on an independent film.
Prerequisite: FLM 266 with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Translate story ideas into a workable script.
- Identify the production steps required to turn a script into a film.
- Apply project management skills to planning, storyboarding and scripting a film using computer-based pre-production tools.
- Apply professional production techniques, including lighting, composition, shot selection and camera movement to a digital film project.
- Work with actors and crew members in the production of a film project.
- Edit film with appropriate digital editing software and techniques.
- Create appropriate audio mixes, titles, composites and motion graphics that serve the message of the film.
- Compress video for streaming and other industry standard deliverables.
- Apply copyright and legal practices related to film projects.
- Prepare a short film for submission to a local film festival.
- Practice business management and production organization standards.
