GEG 100 Exploring Geography

Introduces the discipline and tools of geography, including careers in geography, what geographers study, how they think, and how knowledge of geography is helpful in any career field. Also examines basic geographic concepts and themes.

Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115  (or higher, or completion of WR 090  (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Explain basic terms, concepts, and themes in geography. 
  2. Identify some careers in which a background in geography is especially helpful. 
  3. Describe the major subfields of geography. 
  4. Assess how a geographic perspective provides insight into understanding the world’s physical and cultural environments. 
  5. Differentiate between and describe the uses of various geographic tools.
