HDF 229 Middle Childhood Development Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Examines the principles of development as they apply to children ages 6 through 12 years. Emphasizes typical and atypical development in the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional domains.
Prerequisite: Placement into WR 090 ; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the stages of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development as they apply to typically and atypically developing children.
- Demonstrate sensitivity in responding to the child’s unique social and cultural influences.
- Use knowledge to support healthy development for children of all abilities.
- Outline the major developmental milestones accomplished from age 6-12.
- Describe the interconnectedness of the domains of development: physical, intellectual, and social/emotional, and the unique role of peer relations in this age group.
