HDF 229 Middle Childhood Development

Credits: 3

Examines the principles of development as they apply to children ages 6 through 12 years. Emphasizes typical and atypical development in the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional domains.

Prerequisite: Placement into WR 090 ; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Explain the stages of physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development as they apply to typically and atypically developing children. 
  2. Demonstrate sensitivity in responding to the child’s unique social and cultural influences. 
  3. Use knowledge to support healthy development for children of all abilities. 
  4. Outline the major developmental milestones accomplished from age 6-12. 
  5. Describe the interconnectedness of the domains of development: physical, intellectual, and social/emotional, and the unique role of peer relations in this age group.
