HDF 257 Home, School, and Community

Emphasizes helping future teachers and child care workers recognize and understand their unique position as resource coordinators and facilitators for parents. Focuses on developing effective and appropriate communication skills. Analyzes issues involving children with disabilities; ethics and values; and parent, school, and community opportunities.

Prerequisite: Second-year standing in the Early Childhood Education program; and placement into WR 090 ; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Understand the necessity and opportunities for inclusion of communication with the whole family. 
  2. Apply theory-based and practical skills in order to establish rapport and effective communication with parents and to facilitate appropriate parent involvement with the school. 
  3. Examine issues involving children with disabilities, professional ethics, and family values. 
  4. Explain opportunities for parental involvement in their child’s school and the community.
