HDF 258 Teaching in an Anti-Bias Classroom Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Examines the development of practices for teaching young children in culturally relevant and inclusive ways. Covers identity development in relation to gender, race, and other biases that influence and affect children and families. Focuses on uncovering and naming biases. Examines the social context that contributes to biases that affect teaching attitudes and practices.
Prerequisite: Placement into WR 090 ; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Examine and discuss the developmental and social contexts of biases related to diversity issues.
- Interpret and implement anti-bias curriculum goals and explain how they relate to overall teaching and learning with young children and their families.
- Develop and exhibit critical thinking skills related to biases and culturally relevant and inclusive practices.
- Plan and implement curriculum for young children that promotes anti-bias goals.
