HE 213 Women’s Health Issues

Credits: 3

Examines selected health issues and their physical and emotional effects on women. Topics include: body image, eating disorders, reproductive life, sexually transmitted infections, violence, menopause, cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and the politics of women’s health.

Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115  (or higher), or completion of WR 090  (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Analyze factors that impact different dimensions of women’s health. 
  2. Create a plan to reduce the risk of unplanned pregnancy, chronic disease or sexually transmitted infection.  
  3. Describe issues related to health disparities among women. 
  4. Explain the impact of culture on women’s health and practices.   
  5. Articulate concepts relating to women’s sexual health, reproduction and aging.
