HE 213 Women’s Health Issues Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Examines selected health issues and their physical and emotional effects on women. Topics include: body image, eating disorders, reproductive life, sexually transmitted infections, violence, menopause, cancer, heart disease, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and the politics of women’s health.
Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115 (or higher), or completion of WR 090 (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Analyze factors that impact different dimensions of women’s health.
- Create a plan to reduce the risk of unplanned pregnancy, chronic disease or sexually transmitted infection.
- Describe issues related to health disparities among women.
- Explain the impact of culture on women’s health and practices.
- Articulate concepts relating to women’s sexual health, reproduction and aging.
