HM 120 Medical Terminology 1

Emphasizes the terminology related to the healthcare professions and specialties, equipment, drugs, symbols and abbreviations. Includes the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, integumentary. and circulatory/blood/lymphatic system. Provides practical application in the workplace using case studies, operative, autopsy, diagnostic and laboratory reports.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Analyze, build, spell, and pronounce medical terms. 
  2. Use medical terms to describe the human body systems:  anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis and treatment. 
  3. Describe diagnosis, laboratory tests and related reports. 
  4. Analyze patient data using reports and diagnoses from case studies. 
  5. Review and evaluate medical literature for content, interpretation and pronunciation of terms. 
  6. Identify and use electronic medical databases for explanation of equipment, terminology, drugs, and for medical updates. 
  7. Analyze various medical specialties.
