HOR 115 Nursery and Greenhouse Equipment and Safety Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Introduces equipment commonly used in nursery and greenhouse production, including operation, basic maintenance, and safety. Covers self-propelled equipment, mechanical attachments, pesticide application equipment, irrigation equipment, and tools. Emphasizes safety practices and regulations in use of all equipment.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Discuss state and federal regulations regarding safety of workers operating machinery in a nursery or greenhouse.
- Explain the basic theory of how hydraulic equipment operates.
- Describe uses for and operation of self-propelled equipment commonly used in nurseries and greenhouses.
- List stationery equipment commonly used in nursery and greenhouse production and describe operation of each.
- Select and use appropriate attire and personal protective equipment when operating machinery.
