HOR 286 Organic Gardening Summer Practices Lecture Hours: 1 Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 2
Surveys summer organic garden practices. Applies practical skills and techniques used in the summer in the organic garden. Topics covered may include planting, bed preparation, irrigation, trellising (as needed), pest control, fertilization, harvest and post-harvest handling of vegetable crops.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Apply principles of organic gardening to plant production in the Chemeketa organic garden.
- Prepare soil and soilless media for crop production.
- Use best management practices in soil, water, and fertilizer management.
- Manage crop pests using appropriate monitoring, identification and management techniques.
- Use proper harvest and post-harvest techniques to prepare harvested crops for market.
