HST 203 United States History: 1900 to Present

Explores the cultural, economic, social, and political development of the United States from 1900 to the present.

Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115  (or higher), or completion of WR 090  (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Describe the major political, social, economic, and cultural transformations in American history from 1900 to the present. 
  2. Compare the racial, economic, and ethnic groups in American society from 1900 to those in the present day. 
  3. Analyze the ways in which an unequal distribution of economic and political power has shaped the modern American nation. 
  4. Analyze how other historical issues and ideas have also affected the development of the modern American nation. 
  5. Prepare a written analysis of historical documents, issues or ideas. 
  6. Analyze primary historical documents. 
  7. Evaluate historians’ arguments and different methods of historical inquiry about an issue or time period.

  1. Apply analytical skills to social phenomena in order to understand human behavior. 
  2. Apply knowledge and experience to foster personal growth and better appreciate the diverse social world in which we live.
