HUM 106 British Life and Culture Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Offers a broad overview of British culture and civilization. Examines traditions and institutions to help understand the British way of life in the 20th century. Lectures by British guest lecturers and related field trips. This course (taught in London) is only for students participating in the London program of the Oregon International Educational Consortium.
Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115 (or higher), or completion of WR 090 (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Explain and discuss the current social, historical, and cultural issues facing contemporary Britain.
- Relate the significant historical events in London to contemporary conditions
- Identify the major architectural styles in London corresponding to their historical timeline.
- Describe the major social, historical, and cultural issues of contemporary London.
- Discuss the major class and education issues facing the current government and assess the importance of resolution of the issues.
- Compare and evaluate the perspectives of the conservative and labor parties to the issues facing the government.

- Interpret and engage in the Arts and Letters, making use of the creative process to enrich the quality of life.
