MTH 079 Applied Trigonometry Lecture Hours: 1 Credits: 1
Covers trigonometric ratios of obtuse angles, law of sines, law of cosines, vectors and radian measure. Includes applied problems involving these concepts. Offers an individualized course that may be started and completed at any time during the term.
Prerequisite: MTH 078 with a grade of C or better, or equivalent course as determined by instructor; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Use mathematical problem-solving techniques involving trigonometric ratios of obtuse angles, law of sines, law of cosines, vectors and radian measure. Techniques include the use of diagrams along with symbolic and narrative representations.
- Create mathematical models of abstract and real-world situations using trigonometric ratios of obtuse angles, law of sines, law of cosines, vectors and radian measure.
- Use inductive reasoning to develop mathematical conjectures involving trigonometric ratios of obtuse angles, law of sines, law of cosines, vectors, and radian measure. Use deductive reasoning to verify and apply mathematical arguments involving these trigonometric concepts.
- Make mathematical connections to, and solve problems from, other disciplines involving trigonometric ratios of obtuse angles, law of sines, law of cosines, vectors, and radian measure.
- Use oral and written skills to communicate about trigonometric ratios of obtuse angles, law of sines, law of cosines, vectors, and radian measure.
- Use appropriate technology to enhance mathematical thinking and understanding and to solve mathematical problems involving trigonometric ratios of obtuse angles, law of sines, law of cosines, vectors and radian measure and judge the reasonableness of the results.
