MUP 100D Applied Cello Lessons

Covers pedagogy of the cello, including fundamentals of music, reading, and theory; beneficial practice habits; repertoire for the cello; interpretation; and performance techniques.

Repeatable: Students may repeat this course for a maximum of 9 credits.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Use correct posture to enhance instrument production and utilize proper breathing techniques.
  2. Employ correct tone production and exhibit a working knowledge of the cello.
  3. Demonstrate a familiarity with appropriate musical terms and symbols.
  4. Discuss selected musical periods and styles.
  5. Use effective practice habits, including technique exercises and the identification and rehearsing of difficult passages.
  6. Interpret his/her musical repertoire.
  7. Memorize simple passages and/or pieces and perform an assigned number of pieces.
  8. Exhibit increased self-confidence through use of performance techniques.
