MUP 174 Applied Voice Lessons Lecture Hours: 1 Credits: 1
Covers pedagogy of the voice, including fundamentals of music, reading, and theory; beneficial practice habits; repertoire for the voice; interpretation; and performance techniques.
Repeatable: Students may repeat this course for a maximum of 9 credits. Recommended: Previous experience singing with a school, community, or church choir.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Use correct posture to enhance vocal production and utilize proper breathing techniques.
- Employ correct tone production and exhibit a working knowledge of the instrument.
- Demonstrate a familiarity with appropriate musical terms and symbols.
- Discuss selected musical periods and styles.
- Use effective practice habits, including technique exercises and the identification and rehearsing of difficult passages.
- Interpret his/her musical repertoire.
- Memorize simple passages and/or pieces and perform an assigned number of pieces.
- Exhibit increased self-confidence through use of performance techniques.
