NUR 150 Intro to Advanced Wound Care

Introduces the principle of advanced wound care, including assessment, development of a plan of care, and coordination of care with the health care team. Emphasizes evidence-based practices in wound care including current standards of practice.

Prerequisite: Current nursing student; or current licensure as a LPN or RN.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Define wound assessment characteristics. 
  2. Describe the etiology of pressure, venous stasis, arterial and neuropathic ulcers.
  3. Identify wound management interventions based on evidenced based healing principles. 
  4. Discuss wound bed preparation utilizing evidence-based practice guidelines. 
  5. Develop a plan of care for special wound care needs. 
  6. Identify adjunctive treatment modalities.
  7. Appraise nutritional management in wound healing. 
  8. Evaluate quality of care and coordination of services.
  9. Discuss legal/ethical aspects of advanced wound care.
