PE 185DS Ballroom Dance, Intermediate Lab Hours: 3 Credits: 1
Prepares students to perform basic dance steps and common variations of the Swing, Foxtrot, Waltz and Cha Cha. Beginning class covers basics. Intermediate and advanced classes cover progressively more difficult variations.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Demonstrate effective and graceful movement.
- Identify suitable dance positions as a couple.
- Anticipate and execute techniques for dancing well with a partner.
- Demonstrate awareness of rhythm and the ability to move in time with a variety of dance meters.
- Apply suitable etiquette to social dance occasions.
- Perform basic dance steps and variations in the appropriate style for the Swing, Foxtrot, Waltz, and Cha Cha.

Intermediate - Basic Steps Plus Variations
- Swing - female wrap in; two basic turning; Maria; both under; airport wrap; reach in back
- Foxtrot - walk closed pivot back step; walk open into fast turn; walk grapevine
- Waltz - serpentine; grapevine; walk around; alternating throw over
- Cha Cha - side-to-side pivot; push and spin; twinkle; female double spin
