PHM 101 Introduction to Pharmacy Technology

Introduces the job responsibilities and knowledge and skills required of a pharmacy technician. Overviews assisting the pharmacist in collecting, organizing, and evaluating information for direct patient care.

Prerequisite: Enrollment in the Pharmacy Technician program.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Differentiate between pharmacist and pharmacy technician responsibilities and tasks.
  2. Explain the value of certification to the profession.
  3. Differentiate and name organizations related to the practice of pharmacy.
  4. Describe the role of the pharmacy technician in equipment and facilities maintenance.
  5. Discuss the purpose of inventory control.
  6. Explain ways to collect, organize, and evaluate patient information.
  7. Propose the value of patient counseling in the role of the pharmacy technician.
