PHM 230 Pharmaceutical Drug Classifications

Covers the sources, classifications, and prototypes of drugs. Examines pharmaceutical names; routes of administration; pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of xenobiotics; and pathophysiology of various systemic body systems. Studies variables that affect drug actions including, contraindications and drug interactions; prescription abbreviations and interpretations; drug marketing; and drug approval processes.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Classify pharmaceuticals and name prototypes of drug classifications.
  2. Identify and name routes of drug administration.
  3. Contrast the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of xenobiotics.
  4. Explain the variables involved in contraindications and interactions of drug administration.
  5. Describe pathophysiology of various systemic body systems and identify medication treatments for diseases identified.
  6. Recite, write, and define prescription abbreviations.
  7. Describe the drug marketing and drug approval processes.
