WS 102 Women of the World

Examines women’s issues in a global context. Compares women’s lives from a cross-cultural perspective. Explores women’s lives within key social institutions. Focuses on human rights, globalization, environmental issues, and global stratification.

Prerequisite: Placement into WR 115  (or higher), or completion of WR 090  (or higher) with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Describe the lives of women cross-culturally.
  2. Compare global variations within social institutions.
  3. Analyze the effect of global stratification in women’s lives.
  4. Describe feminism in a global context.
  5. Identify human rights issues and the impact of globalization on women’s lives.
  6. Examine the impact of environmental issues on women’s lives.
  7. Identify different feminist theories and methods of inquiry used in understanding women’s lives.

 

Statewide General Education Outcomes:

  1. Apply analytical skills to social phenomena in order to understand human behavior.
  2. Apply knowledge and experience to foster personal growth and better appreciate the diverse social world in which we live.
