The Healthcare Billing Certificate program focuses on industry standards for billing that include training in both front and back-end skills. This includes but is not limited to insurance verification, claims, account receivable, and collections.

All courses required for this program focus on the skills necessary in the healthcare environment. This means no additional general education courses are required to successfully complete this Certificate. In addition, these courses are applicable to other certificates (ex: Coding Certificate) offered at Chemeketa.

Successful completion of the program will prepare students to take the CPB exam offered by American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

Program Outcomes

  1.  Students completing this certificate should be able to satisfy the following outcomes:
  2. Become familiar with both front and back-end duties of a medical biller from registration, insurance verification to creating claims. Apply knowledge of fair credit reporting and billing acts including collections ln the health care environment. 
  3. Apply current technology and basic assessment tools to manage and verify patients’ insurance information and use these tools to bill both payors and patients. 
  4. Use knowledge of insurance companies and government billing programs for billing purposes
  5. Apply the principles of professional ethics and diversity to medical-legal matters, including confidentiality, reimbursement management, patient rights, workplace rights, informed consents, and electronic information in the health care facility.
  6. Use interpersonal and communication skills that build and maintain cooperative working relationships in the health care profession. 
  7. Become familiar with basic coding skills associated with their scope of practice in medical reimbursement.
  8. Integrate and apply theory and skill in a health care organization through a work site experience. 
  9. Apply advanced knowledge completing a spring billing project. 
  10. Analyze and interpret health care data for decision making in healthcare reimbursement. 
  11. Be prepared to sit for the AAPC CPB certification exam.. 

You may earn a certificate by successfully completing the required 44 credit hours.
