ANES 110 Medical Law and Ethics for Anesthesia Technologists Lecture Hours: 4 Credits: 4
Introduces the concepts of medical law and ethics for health care practitioners specifically working in the Operating room including topics such as HIPAA, Medical Malpractice and Negligence, the physician patient relationship. liability, scope of practice, and ethical concepts as they relate to the medical profession. Examines real cases and ethical dilemmas to promote their own ethical thinking and understanding of law as it relates to their work role in the industry.
Prerequisite: ANES 101 , ANES 103 , ANES 112 and PHM 243 ; or consent of instructor. (All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of C or better.) Student Learning Outcomes:
- Be able to examine complex medical ethics situations and respond effectively
- Understand the core concepts of medical malpractice and avoiding that themselves
- Understand complex medico-legal situations and use sound judgement in dealing with such
- Model sound legal and ethical behavior in the work place and gain expertise in work related legal requirements.
- Understand medico-legal terminology and how it applies in industry
