CIS 288 Server Management 2

Credits: 4

Provides hands-on experience, configuring, customizing, administering, maintaining a server, and outlining the various roles in an enterprise environment. Includes installation and administration of DHCP, DNS, remote access, virtualization, domain management, and group policy design. Provides resources that can be used to prepare for the Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) Certification.

Prerequisite: CIS 279  with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Understand and deploy a server in an active directory site and subnet schema for trees and domains using best practices naming standards 
  2. Implement best practice security standards for remote access through the use of a Network Access Protection server and NAS. 
  3. Integrate and manage DNS within active directory domains, child domains and verify domain DNS SRV records. 
  4. Prepare an active directory infrastructure for redundancy with replication management. 
  5. Plan, configure, and manage the 5 flexible single master operations (FSMO) roles for network optimization. 
  6. Effectively configure and manage both local and domain controller computer policies; determine and configure the group policy processing and priority order. 
  7. Plan and manage a best practices network connectivity plan for file distribution and security encryption. 
  8. Customize system services, registry, and user accounts using advanced group policy and embedded management tools.
