Continues instruction at the level of Emergency Medical Technician, a vital link in the chain of the health care system. Includes all skills necessary for the individual to provide emergency medical care as outlined by scope of practice established by the Oregon Medical Board. Serves as the second in a series of courses making up a national and state EMS training program. Failure of this course will require retaking both EMT 151 and EMT 152.

Prerequisite: EMT 151 with a grade of C or better. Must meet standards as set by the Oregon State EMS Office for licensure which includes health, immunizations, and criminal record check.
Student Learning Outcomes:

Evaluate the nature and seriousness of the patient’s condition or extent of injuries.
Assess and prioritize requirements for emergency medical care.
Implement and perform appropriate emergency medical care based on assessment findings of the patient’s condition.
Lift, move, position and otherwise handle the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury.
Explain pharmacology at a basic level and its relationship to emergency medical procedures.
Describe injuries to body systems and their possible consequences.
Differentiate medical and trauma presentations and management of children and infants from that of adults.
Explain ambulance operations, including responding to a call, emergency vehicle operations, transferring patients, and the phases of an ambulance call.
Gain access to patients and perform rescue procedures.
Describe the EMT’s role in multiple patient and hazardous materials scenes.
