ART 239 Introduction to Digital Illustration

Explores the elements of successful illustration as visual communication through the use of digital tools. Introduces the importance of concept, color, and composition, which students will apply to create thoughtful and visually strong digital imagery.

Prerequisite: VC 114 or VC 139, either with a grade of C or better; or demonstrated experience in vector and raster graphics software; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:

Develop illustration concepts and imagery based on provided source materials.
Digitize original sketches and modify for use in digital illustration.
Produce original black and white line art illustrations.
Create original color illustrations using appropriate color modes.
Make revisions to work based on critique
Plan an illustration composition that incorporates typography and/or custom lettering
Plan for the technical requirements of final illustration.
Research, select and use source material commonly employed by illustrators to develop an original illustration within copyright laws and ethics of intellectual property rights.
