AUM 168 Automotive Electrical Systems 1

Introduces automotive electricity and electronics systems. Includes an overview of automotive circuits.

Prerequisite: AUM 151  and AUM 158 , each with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor.
Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Explain the fundamental principles of electricity including the use of Ohms Law. 
  2. Use electrical and electronic terms to discuss automotive systems. 
  3. Use basic electrical test equipment to analyze electrical systems. 
  4. Draw and define automotive wiring symbols, circuits, and diagrams. 
  5. Explain the fundamental principles of magnetism and electromagnetism in automotive electrical systems.
  6. Describe automotive electric motor principles and how they operate.
  7. Perform test procedures on automotive batteries.
  8. Inspect and rebuild automotive starters. 
  9. Test and rebuild automotive alternators.
