AUM 168 Automotive Electrical Systems 1 Lecture Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 6 Credits: 5
Introduces automotive electricity and electronics systems. Includes an overview of automotive circuits.
Prerequisite: AUM 151 and AUM 158 , each with a grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Explain the fundamental principles of electricity including the use of Ohms Law.
- Use electrical and electronic terms to discuss automotive systems.
- Use basic electrical test equipment to analyze electrical systems.
- Draw and define automotive wiring symbols, circuits, and diagrams.
- Explain the fundamental principles of magnetism and electromagnetism in automotive electrical systems.
- Describe automotive electric motor principles and how they operate.
- Perform test procedures on automotive batteries.
- Inspect and rebuild automotive starters.
- Test and rebuild automotive alternators.
