HM 123 Human Disease for Allied Health Lecture Hours: 3 Credits: 3
Builds on understanding normal structure and function of the human body. Introduces basic processes of pathophysiology, including cell function; inflammation; infection; immunity; and neoplasia, fluid, and electrolytes; and acid-base balance. Relates genetics and aging processes to pathophysiology. Uses a body systems approach to apply pathophysiological concepts to major disorders.
Prerequisite: HM 120 and HM 121 , each with grade of C or better; or consent of instructor. Student Learning Outcomes:
- Apply knowledge of normal structure and function of the human body.
- Describe basic principles and processes of pathophysiology that affect normal body structure and function.
- Explain the role of genetics and aging on physiologic function.
- Apply pathophysiologic concepts to major disorders, including etiology, clinical manifestations, common diagnostic tests, and treatment methods.
- Use appropriate medical terminology to discuss pathophysiologic concepts and processes.
